Curiosity Journey Day 19

I’m taking the train out to Werribee, the most western station. I feel a bit lost when I get there and stumble into the first cafe I can find. It’s called Country Loaf. In there is Chris serving me a lemon slice. Chris owns the cafe and grew up in Werribee. He tells me a good place to take pictures is Bungey’s Hole, a swimming pool that is over 100 years old, where people would disappear in. I’m intrigued and start walking over. I pass a few homeless people showing me the way. Bungey’s hole is basically a pond with a few concrete slabs in it. It used to have a diving tower though. The sun is coming out and i have a little afternoon nap before I start exploring the beautiful creeks around the Bungey’s hole.

Curiosity Journey Day 18

Today I’m going to Alamein. It looks interesting because it has it’s own trainline fork. As I leave the station there is this track starting in front of me and follow it. The track leads me to a creek and and golf course. I walk through east Malvern and Carnegie and get to Murumbeena station. I’m quite hungry and decide to jump on the next train to see where it will take me. It’s the train to Pakenham and it’s full of commuters on their way home. I try to smile at people on the train but no one smile back. When I arrive in Pakenham, it feels like I’m the only person the train. It’s 6:30 and Pakenham is dead. I ask a lady if there are some places to get food. She points me to the highway. After 30 min of walking I reach the highway and there are only fast food franchises. I turn around and walk back to the station to have a meal at the local pub. As I arrive home I get a chance to take a shot of the supermoon.

Curiosity Journey Day 17

I’m at Abbotsford Convent today before my friend Sarah has invited to a non-violent communication workshop. I decide to go for a little explore around the convent. Behind the convent there is a beehive. I meet Bernie who is a beekeeper volunteering at the hive. He tells me just to come in if want to take some photos. I hesitate a little but go in anyway. Before I know it, I have two bees sitting in my hair. They must like the smell of my shampoo. I freak out a bit and they sting me in the head 🙁 I haven’t had a bee stung since I was a kid. I hurts a lot less than what I remember. Note to self: Put on protective gear when entering a beehive. So I put on some proper bee protection gear and take some proper photos. After I walk along the Yarra River and get to a very beautiful spot. In that spot, there is Ali from Afghanistan sitting. We talk about travel and that he has been to Germany before. He has one of the most incredibly smiles I have seen. He just seems so calm and happy and really inspirational. I go up to the convent to eat a piece of cake to distract me from the bee stings. Then I realise that the non-violent communication workshop is actually in Thornbury and not Abbotsford. So I jump on my bike and race up.

Curiosity Journey Day 16

Today I am trying out the Hurstbridge train line. I hop off at Macleod station. I had never heard of this suburb before. There’s a line of shops close to the station. I walk into the fish and chips shop and order an Minimum chips, an Australian delicacy. The man in the shop couldn’t tell, if there are any interesting things in Macleod. At a playground across the street I meet Carl, an Irish immigrant who has been in Melbourne for 5 years. He is super friendly and tells me about the nature reserve where I can see kangaroos. I walk off towards the reserve and pass some beautiful front yards with lots of birds in them. Inside the reserve it feels very quiet and peaceful. I think I’m the only person in there. Then all the sudden I see a roo standing right in front staring at me. I think this is actually the first time I have seen a kangaroo in Melbourne out of the zoo.

Curiosity Journey Day 15

It’s a beautiful afternoon. After being in the city all morning decide to go to the beach and take the train to Sandringham. I walk down to the shore, take my shoes of and start exploring. I find shells, jellyfish and even lego blocks along the way and admire the gorgeous tiles on the side walk. After 2 weeks of curiosity walks straight, I take it easy and relax until the sun goes down.
